The upper frame uses a heavy cast-and-welded structure with high rigidity and strong load capacity for continuous heavy-duty duty. Its internal Acme thread engages the adjustment ring so that the discharge setting is adjusted steplessly, and the crushing reaction is carried through the frame into the base.

Main operations on the upper frames are carried out on large borers and vertical and horizontal lathes, with heat treatment relieving internal stress so that dimensions stay stable after machining. Critical fits are held to drawing, and threads, spigots and bores are matched and pre-assembled in the works to reduce site fitting.

Frames are built in sizes for each model and supplied as a set with adjustment rings, heads and liners, and also serve as replacement parts in overhauls. Match-checked before delivery, they fit directly on site without re-fitting, shortening installation and commissioning.
